"Red State" Full Trailer Released Today

This is on my list as one of the most anticipated films of the year. I've been a Kevin Smith fan for a long time-- I saw Clerks in the theater, along with Chasing Amy and Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. I'm also a fan of his podcasts and S.I.R. internet radio programming. So to see a guy who's used to making what one would call "stoner films", do a complete 180 degree turn in style...well, that's pretty goddamn intriguing.

He's been touring with the film since the beginning of the year, and plans on having an Academy-Qualifying screening and a VOD release before it's official theatrical release in October. And this morning, he released the first long-form trailer:

I'm very excited to see this film-- especially since I will be able to watch it on my couch in my house on Labor Day weekend! This is great, considering that I haven't been able to make it out to a movie in MONTHS (it's what happens when you have a new born). The film looks great, and seems like a lot of fun. I just wish that EVERYONE released films through VOD, so I could at least get to see Super 8...or X-Men First Class....or Green Lantern...or Captain America...or Thor....

"The Avengers" Trailer Has Been Leaked...Badly.

Hey man, I get it. I'm as geeky as they come. I grew up reading comic books, and being mocked and ridiculed for it; this was back in the 70s and 80s when you could only get good comics at local conventions, and all the mainstream stuff at book stores. It's wild to see such a wide embrace of the so-called "geek culture" that I grew up in, with some adolescent shame. All the books that I used to love as a kid are now getting made into these big-budget event movies. Guys and girls (Mmmmm...Cosplay Girls....!) are into this stuff now. It's a great thing to see.

Unfortunately, I haven't made it out to the theaters AT ALL to see ANY of the new movies out there-- especially the super hero movies; I just haven't had the time. I more-than-likely won't be seeing any of these films until they are released on DVD/Blu-Ray/Netflix. So it's always exciting to find out that something fun has been "leaked"-- like the "teaser tails" at the end of Marvel's movies. I remember people telling me to wait out the credits at the end of the first Iron Man for a surprise ending. And it was AWESOME!!!! Since then, they've done it with The Hulk (the good second one, not the shitty first one) and Iron Man 2. Now they're doing it with Thor (haven't seen it), and Captain America (haven't seen it either). The latter features the much-sought-after "teaser" for next years "The Avengers"...and it's been leaked on the internet!

But don't get too excited. Mostly, because it looks like SHIT. No, the movie doesn't look bad...I couldn't tell you HOW the movie looks, because you can barely make out ANYTHING in the clip! Which goes to show you-- SEE IT IN THE THEATER! Who am I kidding-- I knew it was going to look bad. But I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. And if you're reading this, you're probably wanting to see it too. Hell, you probably skipped everything I've written here and jumped down to the video! Fair enough. Here it is:

Original Video- More videos at TinyPic

Well, the audience is excited enough.

Goddamn, I've GOTTA get to the movies this summer!

Amy Winehouse Found Dead

Shocking, but not all that surprising, Amy Winehouse was found dead today in her London home today. She was 27 years old.

This has been a sad, sad story for quite a few years-- watching someone this talented being constantly taken down by her demons. She has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for a long time-- as recently as her last and what was to be her final appearance during a show when she was too fucked up to remember her lyrics. I'm still pissed at the people that thought it was okay for her to go on stage like that.

Singers come and go-- this little girl had TALENT. She had "it", truly and sincerely-- more so than Britney Spears or Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, or whoever the hell else is out there.

She is known best for her "Rehab" song...but THIS song is perhaps my favorite-- a true showcase of her skills as a vocalist. This is "Me and Mr. Jones".

This is heartbreaking and a shame. The music world has lost a true giant, far too soon; she is my generation's Billie Holiday-- and that is not a bold statement, it's a fact.

 She will TRULY be missed.

Chapelle's Show Co-Creator Neal Brennan Offers Other Side of Show's Demise

Fans of Chapelle's Show were DEVISTATED by the seemingly sudden end of a true comedy classic. All we knew was that Dave was offered $50 million dollars...then he ran away to Africa. When he appeared on Oprah, he talked about how Comedy Central tried to take control of the show-- for example, telling him that he used the word "nigger" too much. He said that there were too many people trying to control the show, and the racial themes of the show began to take on a life of their own-- making them seems more racist than social commentary. This is what we heard from Dave himself. But what about the other half of the show? Co-creator Neal Brennan was a silent partner in this entire discussion...until now.

Last month, Neal Brennan appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast and told his side of the story...and some of what he has to say is absolutely surprising. It seems as if the end of Chapelle's Show was predominately driven by politics, money, and ego. Hearing this is very sad and unfortunate. It's a goddamn shame.

Check it out here.

Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson

Doug Hutchinson has a long list of film and television credits, including Party of Five, The Green Mile, Lost, Batman and Robin, 24-- he's one of the actors that literally seems to be in everything. And now, the 51 year old is literally in a 16 year-old aspiring actress named Courtney Stodden.

The two stirred up a firestorm of controversy when a couple of month's ago, they announced that they were married. It's a relationship that started out as an innocent student-mentor situation, then morphed into a love-affair. Well, why don't we let them explain it in this interview from E! Online:

NOTE: I removed the link from the site because it was playing automatically, and I couldn't get it to stop. You can check it out here.

There you go. What's with that weird posing thing she does when the camera zooms in on her? Well, she's 16, so I guess she thinks that's cute or sexy or something. At the very least, she seems to enjoy fucking him. I'm sure the two of them are having a pretty good time together. Far be it from me to judge them-- if they're happy, even for a brief amount of time, then so be it. There are people fucking each other with massive age differences all over this country-- right or wrong. Personally, I've never been into women, or girls, this young...but hey, it's not my life.

This may last 4 months, it may last 40 years. Who the hell knows. That's Holllywood....

Shark Jumps Into Research Vessel

A nearly 10 foot long, half-ton Great White shark jumped out of the ocean and onto a Marine research vessel of the coast of South Africa. Team leader Dorien Schröder describes the incident aboard the Cheetah, after things had been silent for about five minutes before, after an hour of heavy shark activity:

"Next thing I know I hear a splash, and see a white shark breach out of the water from [the] side of the boat hovering, literally, over the crew member who was chumming [throwing food bait] on the port side,"
Schröder managed to pull the crew member out of the way before the front of the shark slammed onto the deck, while the remaining body and tail thrashed violently, damaging the ship, before it wedged itself between containers and the stern. It took a crane from another ship to finally remove the shark. In the mean time, Schröder poured water over the gills to keep it alive.  AMAZING! She's like a female Quint, but without the vendetta.

Okay, this is clearly not the video of the actually event. You can read more about it via The Guardian.

Fox News' Eric Bolling: Bitch

This is a funny story, about a Fox News host who apparently is need of a few tampons.

This jackass named Eric Bolling, who I believe it in line to be a replacement for Glenn Beck, said something incredibly stupid a few days ago. See, he claimed that America was safe between 2000 and 2008 under George W. Bush, claiming that there were no terrorist attacks on American soil:

We all know how ridiculous this statement is-- it's the same shit that Rudy Guilliani tried to pass off onto people. So the next day, he made a retraction:

What a bitch. Look dude-- if the "ridiculous, radical Right" would stop making up insane shit, no one would have to jump down your throat when you "misspeak". What happened was that you got all wrapped up in running your stupid mouth and did not think about what you were saying-- which is a major problem for most of the people on Fox News. So of course people crawled up your ass when you said what you said. Basically, no one can really believe any of the bullshit you say on a regular basis. For those of you who don't know, here are some of the other stupid things that this asshole has said:

This, Eric "asshole" Bolling, is why "radical Liberals" are going to be crawling up your ass. That is why Progressives, like myself, will be sure to highlight every moronic thing that you say. You wanted Glenn Beck's seat, douche bag, YOU GOT IT. So stop being a pussy whenever anyone calls you out for making moronic statements. What do you expect?!

If you don't want to be treated like a bitch, stop acting like one.

This could very well be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. It's the latest MEME to hit the scene-- people pretending to be planks and having their pictures taken.

I mean, this is just STUPID. Are Americans really this bored? Seriously, this is just about as lame as you can get! Even "ghost riding the whip" is better than this crap! That is, until I saw Rosario Dawson do it...

Now, well....I kinda like it.

So I guess the likablity factor of this phenomena is participant-specific. In which case I whole-heartedly support this silliness.

Not for nuthin'...but she doesn't not make a good plank...if you catch my meaning, if you get my drift...

Black Eyed Peas on Sabbatical

Yay! No more Black Eyed Peas albums in the near future!

So no, I am not a fan of this "group". Well, that's not entirely true. I USED to like these guys...but the version I liked does not at all resemble what they had become:

This is the ONLY song that these guys made that I liked. I enjoyed the video, too. But this was, in contemporary terms, a long time ago. The lady in the group back then was Kim Hill-- FAR BETTER than Fergie, if you ask me.

For someone not a fan, this is great a point. The key to their statement is that they claim that they are taking a break from "making music together", which probably means that they're all gonna make solo albums...which SUCKS, because there could potentially be 4 more shitty albums being made in the near future.

Oh well.

The Marriage Vow

There are many reason why I am not fond of religion. There are also many reasons why I am not too pleased with people who think of themselves as social conservatives. As far as I am concerned, both are just alternative ways to address bigotry and intolerance. Mixing religion and politics is like having cake with your eggs, or driving a car with bicycle handle just doesn't work.

There's this guy named Bob Vander Plaats, a social conservative from Iowa who has introduced this silly pledge called "The Marriage Vow". Guess what it's purpose is? That's right! To tell people how evil and toxic the queers are! This, being the latest of conservative pledges, is being presented by Plaats' The Family Leader organization-- one of the many conservative groups that seeks to improve the quality of the American family by promoting so-called Christian values. In other words, they want to keep gays from getting "married".

"The sanctity of marriage" is a catch-phrase that is CONSTANTLY thrown around by people like this-- people that refer to what they interpret as "God's plan" in keeping marriage between a man and a woman. Which is bullshit, after all-- I mean, in a country with shows like "The Bachelor", and with a divorce rate that damn-near dwarfs the marriage rate, and with married politicians and celebrities constantly being caught with their pants seems to me that heterosexuals have no concept of what the word "sanctity" means.

These social conservatives really do no understand what a "family" really means. Well, they have this image or ideal in their heads...

...but this is just an image. I think many of these people are simply in love with a mythological ideal of what the word "family" represents. "Family", as defined by Merriam-Webster, has about 8 meanings-- none of which cite specifics of what the social conservatives define. One of those definitions is as follows:

"the basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children; also : any of various social units differing from but regarded as equivalent to the traditional family"

Doesn't say anything about gay or straight there. Then again, when it comes to social bigots conservatives, the only book that they want to acknowledge is the Bible. Even then, from what I know of the Bible, I don't think intolerance and hated are among the tenants of what are defined as good values. But what do I know-- I am not a religious person.

Aside from the anti-gay angle, there is one passage in this so-called marriage vow that I take issue with. In fact, it's the first bullet point listed in the pledge:

"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African- American baby born after the election of the USA‟s first African-American President."

Clearly this is meant to take a swing at President Obama-- again, this is more of a political document than anything regarding the family, or conservative "values".  The idiotic thing here is this claim that African American children were more likely to be raised by two-parents. BULL. SHIT. Whoever wrote this pledge has absolute no concept of American history. So let me shed a little light on this issue:

When Africans were first brought to this country as slaves, there were a disproportionate ratio of men to women-- nearly 20 men to 1 woman. When slave owners started breeding Africans, OFTEN TIMES children and fathers were sold off to other plantations, either for profit or punishment...and both. Black men were murdered and lynched at an alarming rate, in spite of their families. And lets not forget to mention the white slave owners that impregnated black women, who in turn sold the kids and the mother to hide them from their "real" families (to protect the "sanctity of marriage" I assume). I suggest reading up on the subject-- pick a book, ANY BOOK

In other words, this "pledge" is toilet tissue. Sure, I believe that these people actually think that they are doing something good. Mostly, however, this is just another manipulative, divisive document that serves to propagate a toxic culture.

The Last Shuttle Launch

No matter how many times I've seen it, I am always in awe of watching the Space Shuttle take off. Today was the last shuttle launch ever, and it was a great as ever.

It's pretty incredible to imagine that my kids (5 years old and 5 months old) will only really know about the Space Shuttle in historic terms, much as my generation did with the Apollo missions. I guess you can say that the Space Shuttle is the Gen-X space vehicle.

From Earth to space in ten minutes. What amazing times we live in!

"The Undefeated" Movie Trailer

Have you heard anything about this movie called "The Undefeated"? Yeah, neither have I. And after seeing this trailer, I have absolutely no interest. NONE whatsoever.

The film is apparently a love-letter to the phenomena that is Sarah Louise Palin. The clip consists of a lot of stock footage, mixed in with news clips and interviews with "regular people" and what appear to be a few political commentators-- there's a clip with that Andrew Brietbart asshole.

Well, enough of my blathering-- take a look for yourselves:

The Undefeated Teaser Trailer from Dain Valverde on Vimeo.

I can say that this video is a true testament to what Sarah Palin is. This woman is loved and admired by many people-- and that really is nothing to sneeze at. But come on-- if you have to have a bunch of people talking FOR you to justify your worth...that says a lot about how useless you really are. She is an under-educated, barely-articulate, misinformed, half-governor...but really the only celebrity the Republicans have. This film, which opens in "select theaters" (which probably means like 50-100 in the midwest), makes her look like some kind of folk hero that has been maligned by this relentless creature known as "the liberal media"-- which means any outlet other than Fox News (which she is a party of).

Conservatives have made a few attempts at these propaganda films, trying to gain the respectability that people like Al Gore, Michael Moore, Bill Maher, and others have. The problem is that while films like these are edited in the "modern style", and have that (liberal elitist) Hollywood Blockbuster movie trailer look and feel, the subject matter is still...well, garbage. This is a niche film, made for a very small and specific audience: the Sarah Palin-lovers. This has about as much mainstream appeal as a gay-indie film; which means that it has NO mainstream appeal-- no matter what rote and stale editing techniques are used.

So there you have it. Another boring attempt by Conservatives to make a propaganda film. "Boo-hoo-hoo, the liberals mock us! We're not taken seriously! Our values are under attack!" Whine-whine-whine, bitchandmoan-bitchandmoan. When will Conservatives stop playing victims and start making sense?

They Might Be Giants Covers Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping"

They Might Be Giants could piss in a bottle and I would buy it. So I guess it's no surprise that I would love their cover of Chumbawamba's 90's hit "Tubthumping", courtesy of A/V Club's Undercover 2011-- which has 25 artists doing 1 cover of a song from a list they've provided.

They Might Be Giants covers Chumbawamba

As an added bonus, here's Iron & Wine's cover of George Michael's "One More Try":

Asian Girls in Kermit Suits MEME

Here's the latest and greatest for all you Asian fetishists out there. It's a Tumblr called "Fuck Yeah AZN Girls in Kermit Suits and Friends". This is similar to the "SFW Porn" phenomena from damn near five years ago, although not really as clever or funny.

I don't know if I really get this Asian girl thing. Well, I GET IT-- it's just not my thing. Sure, Asian girls are cute-- but so are black, Hispanic, white, etc.... I think the only reason this particular meme "works" is the fetishism that follows Asian girls. I mean, I think the only other thing that could work in this vain is "nerdy girls in Kermit Suits". Then there are things like "Hot Chicks with Books":

...then there's "Sleeping Cuties":

So, there you go. Straight boys love ladies. Straight boys are also strange, and like strange things.

Blame the penis.

Casey Anthony Found NOT GUILTY?!?!?!?!?!

I am completely and totally SHOCKED and STUNNED. This must be how you white folks felt when O.J. was acquitted-- granted, I was shocked when he was acquitted too. Just as in this case, I was ABSOLUTELY SURE that this murdering twat was going to the fucking chair! But, once again, the justice system speaks...and vomits and shits. She was found not guilty on all but one counts; she will be convicted of lying to, and misleading police officers.

So, the jury bought the "dysfunctional family" and "crazy behavior" theory. Never mind the fact that this bitch used chloroform to drug her kid. Never mind the fact that the little girl's face was duct taped to prevent her from breathing. And never mind the fact that the body was dumped in a swamp for the animals to get at. Forget all of that shit. This fucking murderous whore, this emotionally-bankrupt twat-- THIS TRASH got off FREE AND CLEAR!!!!!!!!

Wow, man-- I really don't know what to say. Right now, I am a ball of surging emotion, unable to articulate in detail how I feel about this. As a father, I am absolutely furious. As a human being, I want to burn down the nearest courthouse.

What the fuck is wrong with our legal system?! How is it that things can be THIS fucked up?! I mean, at least O.J. eventually ended up in jail-- for unrelated shit, but at least SOME justice was served. This is absolutely unacceptable. It's sad. It's awful. That poor little two year-old girl was murdered by her skank of a mother. However, the jury has clearly felt that there was not enough evidence to convict Casey Anthony for it.  That little baby girl died in vain. That's the saddest thing of all about this bullshit. That little girl, who was suffocated to death, and whose body was left to decompose in a swamp and serve as food for whatever animals found her....and NO ONE will be held accountable for it.

She may get four years for lying to police. Big. Fucking. Deal. If she DOES end up in jail, I say we all collectively offer a reward to the first one of her fellow inmates that shanks her in the throat.

My heart and soul weeps for Caylee Anthony. At the same time, I'm sort-of glad that she doesn't have to deal with her mother-- the sperm-receptacle that will be free to be air-tight with as many men as she'd like. Let's hope that she can get herself fixed so she doesn't have to put another child through this disgrace again.

I am disgusted.

Just announced today-- Casey Anthony was sentenced to four years, but with time served may only end up in jail for another couple of weeks before she is released.

I'm hearing a lot of speculation about whether or not Anthony will get a book deal. I honestly don't think anyone needs to worry about this. Even if there is someone out there willing to write her story, do you honestly think ANY reputable publisher would distribute it? I mean, there's always self-publishing...but who would buy it?

Remember the last acquitted murderer to get a book deal?
